A little about me!

>> Thursday, 20 September 2007

Hi!

I thought I'd share with you a little information about me, so you can put a face and a name to the content on feedahappylife.

So, I'm Helen. A 27 year old, living in Nottingham and working in a big corporate in the day time.

This picture was from a Spanish food night I did for friends and the moustache was part of fancy dress!! I don't think that was the first glass of wine to touch my lips that evening!

Anyway, I spend a HUGE amount of time thinking and reading about food and an even HUGER amount of time pottering away in my kitchen, conjuring up meals to serve to anyone I can feed! I love to have people over and create new menus and will quite happily spend a whole day shopping and cooking in preparation.

My favourite room in the house!

I'm a big dessert cook. I think it's something about the alchemy of creating a batter and then it morphing into some giant cake or crisp meringue before your eyes. It's also something to do with my very sweet tooth. However, I'm trying very hard to master other dishes too. I'm big on flavours, using lots of herbs and spices in my recipes and I'm working on my presentation!!

My biggest food taster is my partner, Gareth, who has on more than one occasion asked me to stop cooking before he explodes. The other special resident at the home of feedahappylife is Coco, my beautiful cat, who keeps me company in the kitchen.

Coco, the blue-pointed Ragdoll cat!

I'm not really sure what inspires me. I have a lot of cooking books and buy every food magazine I can get my hand on (I think they do seasonal recipes really well). Chef wise, I love Nigel Slater for his writing (food poetry!), Nigella of course for making food sexy, Yotam Ottolenghi for his amazing salad recipes and Dan Lepard for being the guru of baked goods. Along with Nigel, Giles Coren also gets my vote for brilliant food writing that makes me laugh out loud.

I've got a few more projects in the pipeline on my personal quest to become the UK's version of Martha Stewart! When time allows, I'll share these with you and hopefully develop http://www.feedahappylife.co.uk/ into a portal for all of this activity.

Many, many thanks for stopping by. If you ever want to know anything more, please let me know!

Time to get back to the kitchen...

Helen x
